A symbol of support for those who’ve lost their homes and livelihoods

During the devastating bushfires in December, the Red Cross built a very different kind of Christmas tree in Sydney’s CBD. One created entirely out of materials collected from fire-stricken areas.

The response – in smoke-choked Sydney and beyond – was humbling. The tree’s story was told in over 30 countries more than 320 times, driving donations and bringing home the true devastation of the bushfires.

Sadly, the Burnt Christmas Tree has become a reality for thousands more Australian families.
